Breakdown Recovery
Cover
Breakdown cover is an essential
purchase for the motorist reliant upon
their car - Bringing you peace
of mind and a means of continuing your
journey should the worst happen when
you are
on the road and you suffer a breakdown.
Breakdown cover comes from a number of providers;
The AA; RAC and Greenflag being the largest and
best known. It can also be purchased via a number
of insurance providers usually re-selling the services
of a supplier. In the case of a new car it may
come supplied with free cover for the first few
years included, however will not include any other
cars that you may own or drive.
Breakdown Cover can apply either to the car (irrespective
of the driver), which tends to be cheaper, or to
the driver (irrespective of the car), which is
a more expensive yet convenient form of cover if
you drive a number of cars
There are differing levels of breakdown cover
available, which is reflected in both the price
and the services offered. You must decide on what
you require before purchasing and make sure that
your needs are covered by your breakdown policy.
All providers of breakdown cover will have different
names for their cover levels, however they will
generally follow the following pattern.
Basic
- Attempted roadside fix of problem
- Recovery to nearest garage only
Standard
- Attempted fix at roadside
- Recovery to garage
- Recovery of a set number of passengers
- Recovery to any UK destination
Super
- Attempted fix at roadside
- Recovery to garage
- Recovery of a set number of passengers
- Recovery to any UK destination
- Fix at home
Super Plus
- Onward travel (car hire, trains, accommodation
etc.)
Some Breakdown policies include European Assistance
- if you travel frequently abroad in your car then
it is worth considering a policy that includes
this. Single trip cover may be bought for occasional
travelers. Often this will be cheaper than including
it in the cost of an annual policy. |
