Choosing
and Buying your Personal Registration Plate
You may want to buy a personal
plate for a number reasons, as
a gift, as something to personalise
your car (your initials or name
for example) or to reflect the
car itself as may cars are named
using a combination of letters
or numbers that look great on
a Registration Plate. Whatever
the reason you need to understand
the process and terminology.
The guide below is no substitute
for a look at the DVLA site (see
link above) however it will give
you an overview.
Types of Registrations
- Prefix registrations
contain the year identifier
at the beginning of a registration.
- Suffix
registrations contain the
year identifier at the end
of a registration.
- Current style
registrations consist of
two letters, a two-figure
age identifier and finally
three letters.
- Dateless registrations
do not contain a year identifier
and
can consist of a number
combination followed by a letter
combination
and vice versa.
The Process
- When you have bought
your plate you will receive
your Certificate of Entitlement
(V750).
- This
is the form you will need
when you are ready to put your
personalised registration

until the expiry date shown
on your
V750.
- You must display your Personal
Registration Plate correctly
and the following guide
will keep you on the right
side
of the law (and the boundaries
of
good taste)
www.dvla.gov.uk/vehicles/regmarks/reg_marks_current_requirements.htm
- Transferring your Personal
Registration Plate - To transfer
a registration mark from
